Green lantern pizza was born in 1979 when founder Tony DiMaggio opened our doors on Walton Blvd. with nothing more than his grandmother's secret dough recipe and a burning passion to feed his community.

What began as a small neighborhood pizzeria quickly became the heart of Rochester Hills. Tony believed that great pizza starts long before it hits the oven — it starts with sourcing the freshest local tomatoes, hand-grinding premium mozzarella, and kneading dough the old-fashioned way, every single morning.

Today, Green lantern pizza is operated by the second generation of the DiMaggio family. We've grown, refined our recipes, and expanded our menu — but the soul of our restaurant remains exactly the same: authentic, handcrafted pizza made for people who truly love food.

1979

The Green Lantern Lights Up

Tony DiMaggio opens the very first Green lantern pizza location on Walton Blvd. with just five tables, a stone oven, and his grandmother's legendary dough recipe passed down from Naples, Italy.

1987

First Expansion

After years of packed dining rooms and word-of-mouth acclaim, Tony doubled the restaurant's seating capacity and introduced a full Italian-inspired menu beyond pizza, including pasta and house-made desserts.

1995

Community Award Winner

Green lantern pizza receives the "Best of Rochester Hills" award for the first time — a title we've proudly reclaimed multiple times since. We also launched our signature deep-dish pizza this year.

2003

Second Generation Takes the Helm

Tony's son Marco and daughter Sofia join the business full-time, bringing fresh culinary ideas while honoring the original family recipes. A new loyalty program and catering service launch successfully.

2012

Going Digital & Delivery

Green lantern pizza launches online ordering and introduces its own delivery fleet, making those legendary pizzas accessible across greater Rochester Hills and beyond. Sales double within two years.

2020

Sustainability Commitment

We pivot to fully compostable packaging, establish a local farm partnership program, and introduce a plant-based menu section — proving that great pizza and responsible business can go hand in hand.

2024

45 Years & Still Rising

Celebrating 45 incredible years, Green lantern pizza unveils a refreshed dining space, an expanded menu of 50+ items, and begins exploring franchise opportunities — so more communities can enjoy our legacy.
